One teenage youth was found dead only a few days after being wrongly accused of taking the ashes of a deceased baby during a break-in, a coroner's inquiry has learned.

Tragic Discovery

Kai Lloyd's parents found his remains in his bedroom at his Flintshire home on November 19th, 2021.

Untrue Accusations Begin

The investigation heard how his parent received a communication on 8 November 2021 via social media, from a individual inquiring if Kai was her offspring. The message stated: "Tell him appreciation for burgling my apartment."

In a statement read to the court, Lisa Lloyd said the individual had been in the media, asserting her baby's remains had been taken in a break-in - a claim which was untrue.

Police Inquiry

An official inquiry from police later concluded the alleged break-in complainant had "provided false information" and "evidence shows that said items was never taken in the first place".

News coverage about the supposed stolen ashes generated online responses, and although the teenager was not named in the posts, his mother said people "understood it was him".

The "social media content were really upsetting", she said.

Mental Health Effect

She explained that Kai had been identified with moderate ADHD, and as part of that disorder, other individuals' opinions genuinely mattered to him.

"This must have affected him severely," she said, "especially when this was not true".

The teenager was detained at home, but nothing was found. He was transported to a police station and later freed under investigation.

Authorities said they would be in touch, the hearing heard, but had failed to reached out to the family by the moment of his death.

Isolation and Anxiety

His parent said her son "withdrew into himself" after the arrest and "would keep asking me whether I had received anything from the police", because his ADHD meant sometimes "certain periods could feel like days".

When she spoke to him about the alleged burglary, she said her son told her he had entered the residence because the woman who lived there had said he could utilize the bathroom anytime he wanted, but denied removing anything.

Digital Bullying

In a joint statement between her and her husband, the mother said her child was being harassed online after the allegations.

The inquest learned that a young adult urged Kai to end his life.

She had no worries on the evening before he died, describing how she had listened to him "chuckling and teasing".

She described him as a "caring, affectionate" boy, and said her "relatives is completely shattered".

He had been "clearly concealing his concerns", she said, adding that he could not bear to have anyone "think bad of him".

Educational Reaction

The inquest received testimony from educational personnel at the local High School.

On November 8th, she "heard some boys talking that Kai had been detained and that was the first I heard".

"He informed me... he'd was innocent," she added.

After the discussion, the educator said she called the family's parents' landline and left a message saying she had spoken to the student about the accusations.

The proceedings heard his family said they never got that communication.

Official Finding

Senior coroner told the inquest he would wait for reports regarding what enhancements had been made to dealing with individuals with the condition, before deciding whether he should make a prevention of subsequent deaths report.

Providing a narrative finding, he stated: "Approximately 8 November 2021, unsubstantiated accusations were made against Kai Benjamin Lloyd, a 14-year-old individual.

"Probably falsehoods were subsequently exaggerated and exaggerated through the medium of online networks.

"On November 11th, he was interviewed by the authorities and after his questioning he was released whilst inquiries continued."

The coroner concluded: "There is no evidence that the actions or failures of any organization led to or contributed to his death and although it was the result of a self-inflicted act it is impossible to determine his intent."
