Disturbing Recording Shows Point Officers Are Stabbed in Surprise Attack
A ranking policeman who rushed to the assistance of a fellow officer who was ambushed by a knifeman received the Monarch's Honor for Bravery.
Sgt Tim Ansell fought with twenty-seven-year-old Jacob Brown following he placed a knife to the neck of his partner Sergeant Marc Foster.
Brown launched his attack as the policemen and their third officer, Police Constable Marcus Wolstencroft, were talking to a driver following a road collision in that location in mid-2023.
Brown stabbed and slashed both Sergeant Ansell and Sergeant Foster prior to PC Wolstencroft incapacitated him with a stun gun.
"Policeman stabbed," the constable was heard to say over his communication device.
Officer-mounted and vehicle camera footage made public by the force showed Brown, who was dressed in dark clothing with a hood up, run up to Sergeant Foster from behind with a knife pointed forward.
He ran into the officer who stumbled and went down to the street, after which Sergeant Ansell intervened and tried to wrestle him to the pavement even though being repeatedly struck with the weapon.
Police Constable Wolstencroft deployed his electric weapon and sought a clear shot, bringing the struggle to an end.
Sergeant Ansell was heard stating: "Please provide something on my neck here, I've been stabbed in the neck."
Sergeant Ansell sustained multiple open wounds to his throat and additional injuries to his limbs and body, whereas Sgt Foster received knife wounds.
Authorities said Sgt Foster used his bare hands to control his fellow officer's blood loss before emergency responders reached the scene.
The new award follows after the trio of policemen were granted internal Courage Honors in October 2023 and the police federation award from the local union branch in spring 2024.
They further earned a Area Bravery Award in summer 2024.
"The efforts of each policeman in the end rescued one another and meant no members of the public experienced any harm."
Brown was given to an secure medical confinement in spring 2024, per officials.
